It is 11:30 pm. You are working the late shift as the crisis worker for XYZ Shelter.

The phone rings and you answer. On the other end is Carol who is very upset. You know that this means Carol had a bad experience before calling. You try to calm her down.

She eventually tells you that her husband has just left the house after hitting her again, and calling her stupid and lazy. This has happened before. She often thinks about leaving but she does not have any money of her own. She has to give all of her wages to her husband every time she gets paid. He has told her repeatedly that he will take the kids away from her if she leaves him and that she will not see them again.

Carol wants to know what to do.
